Kristen Beard DeLaney was raised in Mobile with her sister Brooke Beard Dodson to parents Brad and Melissa Beard. She is married to Drew DeLaney with whom they have two daughters, Helen (15) and Rosemary (11). She attended UMS-Wright Preparatory School and received a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. Upon graduation Kristen returned to Mobile to pursue a career in Marketing at Beard Equipment Company. Kristen has been involved in many charitable organizations like United Way of Southwest Alabama, Mitchell Cancer Institute and USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital where she serves on an Advisory Board. Kristen also serves on the UMS-Wright Board of Trustees and Board of Directors for Business Council of Alabama.
In 1999 Kristen was diagnosed with Stage 1 Melanoma and treated with surgery and years of follow-up. In 2014 Kristen was diagnosed with Stage 2 Melanoma and treated with surgery and sentinel node biopsy at MD Anderson in Houston, TX where she continues to be followed. Kristen is cancer free today and passionately spreads the importance of skin cancer awareness in the Mobile community. She is currently serving on Mitchell Cancer Hope Cup Committee, raising funds and awareness for Melanoma research and treatment here in Mobile.
